SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN
VIRTUS & FINGERPRINTING
New School Parent: Safeguard the Children Requirements
To volunteer at Saint Paschal Baylon School in any capacity involving children, you must complete two requirements through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles: fingerprinting and VIRTUS training. Both of these requirements often have sessions available right here at St. Paschal Baylon Parish.
Watch for upcoming sessions here: Safeguard Our Children - St. Paschal Baylon
1. Fingerprinting
A quick, one-time appointment completed through the LA Archdiocese. We're unable to accept fingerprinting records from other sources or agencies. You MUST have a valid government ID at time of fingerprinting.
Find locations and dates here: LA Archdiocese Fingerprinting Sessions (scroll to Calendars)
2. VIRTUS Training - "Protecting God's Children for Adults"
This is a three-hour Archdiocese-mandated program required for all clergy, staff (paid or volunteer), and volunteers who work with or around children, the elderly, or people with special needs. The class covers the facts and myths about child sexual abuse, how perpetrators groom children, and the "Five Step Plan" caring adults can use to help prevent abuse. Certification is valid for 4 years.

Completed your Requirements? Please Submit Your Certificates.
Once you've completed both fingerprinting and VIRTUS, bring or email your certificates to the school office so we can keep them on file:📧 kroumain@stpaschal.org
Reminder: All volunteers must be fingerprinted by the LA Archdiocese and have current VIRTUS certification on file with the school office.
Current School Parent: Renewing Your VIRTUS Certification
If your VIRTUS certification is set to expire within the next six months, you'll need to recertify before it lapses in order to continue volunteering at SPBS. Once recertification is complete, please submit certificate copy to the school office. There are four ways to do this:
Option 1 - Online Recertification (NEW)
A 1–2 hour self-paced "Reporting Abuse" course developed with LAPD and Child Protective Services. Your certificate must not yet be expired. Register here.
Option 2 - "Keeping the Promise Alive" Recertification (1½ hours)
Available only if your certificate has not yet expired. Reviews the "Five Steps" for protecting children. In-person class.
Option 3 - Retake "Protecting God's Children" (3 hours)
Required if your certificate has already expired.
Option 4 - 48 Monthly Bulletins
If you've read at least 48 "Protecting God's Children for Adults" bulletins on VIRTUS Online (and your certificate is not expired), email avichot@la-archdiocese.org with the subject line "Option #3 Recertification" and include your name, address, parish, region, and phone number. After verification, you will be sent a Recertification Certificate. Please submit copy to the school office.
