The library is named in honor of Mrs. Donna Howard, a beloved SPBS Librarian whose legacy of nurturing a love of reading continues to shape our students today. Her spirit lives on in the warmth, care, and sense of belonging felt the moment you step inside. Our library is a welcoming space where a love of reading takes root.

Staffed by a full-time Librarian and supported by dedicated parent volunteers, the library is open every school day and serves students across all grade levels. From quiet reading corners to collaborative learning spaces, it is designed to make every child feel comfortable, supported, and inspired.

FOSTERING THE JOY OF READING

SPBS LIBRARY

Students participate in our schoolwide Reading Renaissance (Accelerated Reader) program, which personalizes reading goals for each child. This program helps students build strong comprehension skills, expand vocabulary, and develop higher-level thinking, while fostering genuine enjoyment of reading.

Beginning in Kindergarten, students attend weekly Library enrichment classes that introduce them to books, research skills, and responsible library use. All students in grades K–8 may choose from a collection of over 10,000 books, ensuring there is something for every interest and reading level.

LIFELONG LOVE OF LEARING

Where Curiosity & Confidence Bloom

Mrs. Howard’s Library also serves as a quiet study space after school, a gathering place for student leadership, and a hub of learning beyond the classroom. Renovated in 2013, it includes student-use iPads for Accelerated Reading testing, a robust reference section, and thoughtfully designed spaces that support both independent study and group learning.

Through twice-yearly Scholastic Book Fairs, our library continues to grow, adding new books and resources that enrich both classrooms and student learning experiences.

Mrs. Howard’s Library represents what makes SPBS special: a place where faith, academics, and community come together to foster curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
