We offer a comprehensive curriculum that includes Religion, Mathematics, Literature, Language Arts, Library, Social Studies, Science, Spelling, Foreign Language, Art, Art Appreciation, Music, Physical Education, Computers/Technology, and Junior High Electives. Honors English/Language Arts and Mathematics courses are available to qualified junior high students who meet the outlined criteria. All academic subjects are aligned with Common Core State Standards, and Religion is aligned with Archdiocesan standards.
Our school holds the maximum term of accreditation from both the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), reflecting our strong academic program and commitment to continuous growth.
Yes. Teachers and aides work closely with students to meet them where they are. Social-emotional guidance and meaningful family-school partnerships are also part of our approach. We have a dedicated resource teacher who is available to students in all grades for academic support.
All students receive instruction in Religion, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Weekly enrichment classes include Art, Music, Spanish, Physical Education, Technology, and Library. Junior High students (grades 6–8) also choose from 30+ electives including Robotics, 3-D Printing, Financial Literacy, Video Production, Musical Theatre, Marine Biology, and more. Elective offerings may change annually.
Students in grades K–5 attend weekly technology classes in our state-of-the-art Mac computer lab. Students in grades 6–8 fulfill a yearly technology requirement and may choose from a variety of content-specific technology electives. All students have daily cross-curricular access to individual iPads loaded with grade-specific apps across all subject areas, and students in grades 3–8 are assigned an iPad for both school and home use.
Our technology curriculum is based on the National Education Technology Standards and is designed to support grade-level learning in collaboration with classroom teachers. Each grade level follows a tailored curriculum that builds computer skills and proficiency in areas such as keyboarding, CAD drawing, coding, animation, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Google Docs, and other programs. The program is designed to strengthen students' reading, writing, critical thinking, and language arts skills while preparing them for future success.
SPBS employs proper CIPA protocols to restrict potentially inappropriate internet access for all students while on campus. A comprehensive Digital Citizenship curriculum is taught in Kindergarten through 8th grade.
We test all students in K-8 Grades through STAR Enterprise digital testing program four times during the school year, during testing windows mandated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Test results are shared with parents and used to help guide our academic curriculum and are part of the process used to determine whether a student qualifies for our Accelerated/Honors Programs in Grades 6-8.
