Yes. SPBS has an active Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) and families are highly engaged, 95% of families volunteer, contributing over 6,000 volunteer hours last school year. Each family is expected to contribute 40 volunteer hours per year (10 of which may be parish-related). Unfulfilled hours are billed at $30/hour. Families also participate in fundraising through events like Fall Fest, Jog-a-thon, and the School Gala/Auction.
All volunteers working with children must be VIRTUS trained by the Safeguard the Children office at the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The VIRTUS Certification is valid for four years, then a re-certification course must be completed. Additionally, volunteers must be fingerprinted by the ADLA LiveScan office.
