Shakespeare Festival

Students playing Queen Elizabeth and William Shakespeare visit classes
and introduce
students to their remarkable lives and accomplishments.
Begun in 2001, our annual SPBS Shakespeare
Festival introduces students in all grades to the excitement
of Shakespeare’s great plays and the magic of live theatre.
In activities appropriate for each developmental stage of our students, classes undertake the study of Shakespeare’s theatre and historical times.
Our focus on Shakespeare culminates in May with Shakespeare Week at SPBS.
This special week begins with a visit from Queen Elizabeth and William Shakespeare (roles of honor for two eighth-grade students), who visit classes and introduce themselves and their accomplishments.
On Wednesday evening that week, we invite families to enjoy our outdoor Shakespeare Festival,
where Queen Elizabeth and William Shakespeare host a series of brief performances by all
grades of portions of the plays, scenes, music, or speeches they have prepared.
In an atmosphere of festivity, families picnic on our lush play field while enjoying performances from all
ages at our school. During the day throughout Shakespeare Week, classes perform whole plays and smaller performance pieces in our Parish Hall, where we invite both our school audience and our families to enjoy with us the magic of Shakespeare’s theatre.
