Meet Our Faculty

Miss Jennifer Bettar, Teacher

Dear SPBS 4th Grade,
My name is Jenny Bettar, and I am the fourth grade teacher here at Saint Paschal Baylon School.
I am so pleased to be a part of this wonderful community, and to be able to share in your students' spiritual, social, and academic growth. As a result of my Catholic school education at Our Lady of the Valley and Louisville High Schools, I am a firm believer in Saint Paschal's philosophy of educating the whole child.
I am a graduate of The University of Santa Cruz with a Major in Sociology and a Minor in Education. I also graduated from Loyola Marymount University Graduate School and obtained my Masters in Elementary Education with a Professional Teaching Credential. I have seven years teaching experience as an elementary teacher in the Arcdiocese of Los Angeles. I am passionate about creating a safe, happy environment in which my students feel successful while learning.
I plan on making this school year a rewarding and enriching experience for you and your children.
Fourth Grade is an exciting year of growth and transition at SPBS! Welcome to the "Upper Building" - complete with letter grades; a visit to the Santa Barbara Mission; and the "Brig Pilgrim" overnight field trip!
I look forward to sharing it all with each of you...

Together In Faith,

Miss Jennifer Bettar

Fourth Grade

Fourth Grade adventure aboard the Brig PilgrimFourth Grade is a fantastic year full of adventure and challenge. We're not just “learning to read” anymore...we are “reading to learn”. We study novels throughout the year, one of which is Richard Henry Dana's Two Years Before The Mast. This prepares us, along with our acquired knowledge of sea terms, knot tying and sea chanteys to participate in an overnight program aboard the Brig Pilgrim in Dana Point Harbor.

We visit the Santa Barbara Mission during Lent and attend Ash Wednesday service in the same place where native Americans worked and prayed during the 1800s.

Science includes hands-on experiences, as we investigate rocks, minerals, electricity and habitats.

It's our first year in the "upper grades building" and the beginning of our transition from the primary grades to the intermediate grades. Fourth Grade is also the first year that students receive letter grades and participate in the honor roll program at SPBS. Come and join us for a fun-filled year of learning about our Faith, our great State, the curricular Standards, and ourselves!
