Meet Our Faculty

Mrs. Jody Hobbs, First Grade Teacher

I am thrilled to finally be a fulltime member of the SPBS family, faculty, and staff. In addition to years of elementary level teaching, I have actually been affiliated as a substitute teacher with SPBS for over six years already!

I am a practicing member of St. Paschal Baylon church, and teaching First Grade at SPBS is a "dream come true" for me. I believe it is a vital formative learning year for children, and I look forward to having this special opportunity to guide and nurture your children. I have spent a great deal of time teaching at this age level during my years as an educator, and I look forward to an exciting productive first year with you at SPBS. My primary goal as your new First Grade teacher is to work hard and help each child to be academically, socially, and spiritually successful.

First Grade

As is true with First Graders everywhere, this is a year of enormous, and very visible strides in a child’s education.

It is a year of important transitions, building upon and accelerating skills learned in Kindergarten.

During First Grade your child will not only learn how to read, they will even enter the exciting world of chapter books, getting to know characters such as “Frog and Toad” and “Dr. Dolittle”. They will learn to add and subtract and discover the power of the written word by writing stories. By exploring the mysteries of science and observing classroom critters such as toads and ladybugs, we will learn to better understand the world around us.

This year, the First Graders will be going on field trips to see a performance at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

Father Alex with First GradersWe will continue to learn about Jesus and his life, and what we believe as Catholics. We will attend Mass every Friday with the whole school.

Six-year-olds are enthusiastic learners - loving new ideas and information. We hope to capture this enthusiasm and instill in them a love of learning that will last throughout their years of schooling yet to come.
