School-Wide Art Program
St. Paschal Baylon
School provides a comprehensive, hands-on art and art appreciation
program for grades K-8. Our school’s art teacher, in conjunction
with the Junior High art teacher, coordinates this exciting
program.
This program builds an appreciation and understanding of art and utilizes many types of application, including pastels, charcoal, watercolor, collage, crayon, clay, etc.
At the same time, an important component of our art program is to build confidence in the students about their ability to create art, while increasing their proficiency in this important area of curriculum.
In Kindergarten through Second Grade, students explore the basic elements and principles of art and design and are introduced to different art materials.
In Third through Fifth Grade, students develop their visual arts vocabulary, and use expanded art media to create unique works of art.
In
Sixth through Eighth Grades, our Junior High students explore
various artists from the past and present and their distinctive
works. They tour the The
Getty Center and the newly renovated Getty
Villa in Pacific Palisades. And then our students produce
their own “masterpieces”
in the style of the artists they are studying.
Each school year
culminates with the St. Paschal Baylon School Art Show, which
is held in conjunction with our Open House in late May, for
the families and friends of our students.
